E-journals can be a very helpful resource, also known as online education journals. They address both online and regular education needs. E-journals provide a source of articles by education professionals as well as beginners in the field. “Blogs” are personal online journals where comments can be posted by students. Online classes are often assigned blogs to be used as community journals where all participants may post information.

Uses for Blogs in a University Online Course

(Source: Trimarco, R. (2004). “Use of Blogs in Online College Classes.” B. Hoffman (Ed.), Encyclopedia of Educational Technology. January 7, 2007, at: http://coe.sdsu.edu/eet/Articles/blogonlineclass/start.htm)

Blogs are used for:

* Professors to post assignments, class requirements, information, lessons, answer questions from students, and post a weekly topic for students to comment on.

* Professors and students to post articles related to the class and others respond.

* Classes to hold discussions about lectures, assigned reading, news, and projects.

* Students to post completed assignments and notes and give others feedback.

* Students to create writing portfolios.

General Uses For Blogs

Personal online journals are also used to create a forum for bloggers on which to post their opinions, review books or other sites, or upload articles. Remember that work posted on such sites may be copied and used by others illegally. Unless you paraphrase it and cite the source or quote it and cite the source, it’s not acceptable to use others’ posted information as your own.

E-Journals

Here are some online education sites where you can access lists of journals. In addition to the journals listed here, there are journals for nearly all universities, as well as most majors, such as nursing, technology, business, etc.

Social media networking and other new forms of online communication are the latest rage. What is it and how are today’s educators using this new tool?

The online technologies and practices used to share opinions, ideas, experiences, perspectives and insights with other people, social media is changing the way we learn, teach, and interact with other people worldwide. People everywhere are having conversations online. The world of education is included; parents, students, teachers and lawmakers. There is a new wave of influencers out there online, and it is powerful.

It all started to flourish around 2007 when social networks began to gain traction. Now memberships are in the hundreds of millions. For the latest trends authors like Paul Gillin began talking about these new influencers several years ago.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the activities involved in social media:

1) Websites need to be properly optimized – so people can find them via search engines.
2) RSS feeds, or Really Simple Syndication – people can now publish online.
3) Optimized article submissions linking back to your website.
4) Blogs and Vlogs – to share content and videos (e.g. YouTube or Google Video.
5) Webcasts/Podcasts/Videocasts – Another way to share information from a desktop.
6) Social networks (MySpace, Flicker, Stumble Upon, etc.)
7) Socializing web content (tagging and bookmarking) – it’s a library online.
Communities online – niche groups according to interests and topics.

Many businesses are already using social media finding these benefits:63 percent are using social media to build and promote their brand;61 percent are using social media to improve communication and collaboration; and 58 percent are using social media to increase the engagement of consumers.

The implications of social media are huge, and in education it is very big. Blogging is an enjoyable way to share information, learn from others and also to make professional acquaintances. Podcasts or videos can help others learn anytime and from anywhere.

Younger people have adapted very quickly to the concept of social media. MySpace is a huge congregation of sharing among kids. Now Twitter is catching on.

Anyone can use social media tactics for one of the following goals:
1) Conversation Mining. Research and mine consumers in vertical and horizontal networks and communities.
2) Invite influencers (customers/teachers/parents) into the circle to learn and share.
3) Choose the tools. Assign people to watch and listen to online conversations about education.

Social media tactics in education provide the ability for virtual classes. There’s a group at Second Life called ‘Real Life Education in Second Life.’ It is made up of people who are interested in the educational possibilities of the program. According to them, there are more than 400 universities and 4,500 educators participating in the Second Life Educators List (SLED). And this group is studying how to leverage the benefits of learning in a virtual world in order to assist the students of today.

Social media also allows students to interact across cultures, both directly and virtually. It also allows intercultural researchers to create new forms of study abroad via co-seminars helping to transform approaches to international education.

here are some social media networking sites for educators, networking and sharing information:
Education Futures – exploring the rise of innovative knowledge societies.
Twitter.com – a place where people can share in real time.
Facebook.com -(Sign up; review groups; use Friendster).
LinkedIn.com – ask “Questions” and “Answers” on Linked-In. Squidoo.com – a place to post and share topical information.
Gather.com – where you can post educational content
Skype – for instant messaging using audio/video.
Second City – for virtual teaching and conferences

Social media today is blending innovative technologies with social interaction, and the co-construction of new knowledge into popular social media outlets for online interaction that are centered around Web 2.0.

There are some obvious benefits to taking online or distance learning classes from a satellite location, but first you may wonder why anyone would take this route in searching for educational advancement.

Geographic location is arguably the most common reason for seeking out online education courses from a satellite location. Even if you live in a college town, you may want to take classes that are not offered locally. If you don’t have even a community college nearby, you may find yourself faced with three equally unappealing options – drop the idea of taking the classes, traveling several hours each time the class meets, or moving. Online education from satellite locations eliminates the need for you to make any of those choices.

Online education in the form of distance learning has become a popular option for public and private schools that have trouble recruiting teachers for specific subjects. In order to offer some classes, these schools become satellite locations. They associate themselves with another school that does offer the class and the students at the satellite location have the opportunity to take the class along with students at the main location. Two way communication, including video feed, allow students in both classes to interact with the teacher and with each other. Sometimes, additional satellite locations meet at the same time and it’s not unusual for three or four classes to share time and teacher.

The advantage is that students get to interact, ask questions and hear discussion in real time, but aren’t required to be physically present at the main classroom. That concept is being offered in locations around the world for a myriad of courses. To find classes available at a satellite location near you, check with local schools, colleges or universities, or your local library. You may be amazed to discover what’s offered in the way of online education at satellite locations right in your home town, right around the corner, or even right on your personal computer screen.

Back to school and earn a bachelor’s degree. But you resent having to do it for years. There are a lot of learning institutions these days providing online education. While some look legit, others sound too good to be true. Getting a fast online college degree sure sounds tempting because it will save you plenty of time. However, there are a few points you might want to consider first.

Literally buying the degree<br />
This might sound as a surprise to you, but a fast online college degree is something which you can obtain even without attending classes or turning in homework.

Such is available from degree mills on the Internet, where you plainly buy the degree. Additional options may include transcript of records or graduation certificate.

How degree mills work

Degree mills are sometimes based on life experiences alone, or on a level of academic work far below what other institutions require from their enrollees. For more details www.profit-pulling-niches.com You can earn such degrees from other legit online learning institutions as well, by attending virtual classes and downloading your lesson modules. But getting a fast online college degree will require you no assignments.

The downside of getting a fast college degree

For most people, literally buying a degree online is simply wrong. A lot of employers will not hesitate to turn down applicants whose credentials were garnered from degree mills on the Internet. A diploma earned from degree mills is not likely to impress potential employers and may just be a complete waste of money. In some parts of the United States alone, it is considered illegal to apply for a job using an unearned college degree.

Some of the things you can do to ensure a fast online college degree program are genuine:

1. Assess the education programs offered by the school and the minimum requirements they seek from the enrollees. Usually these online education programs will require life experiences based on prior learning obtained, usually worth more than two years.

2. Perform a background check of the learning institution. Utilize the Internet to find out everything you can find out about the school — about their enrollees and their graduates. Read information about the school based on a third party assessment, and not merely from the institution’s site alone.

3. Find out about the faculty members; you want to learn only from apt instructors. See how many there are and if they are credible enough to teach.

4. Check out if the school has accreditation from several school commissions. For more details www.workplace-warriors.com And while you’re at it, you might want to make sure that they are recognized by potential employers, to prevent difficulties applying for a job.

The key here is evaluating carefully the school of your choice. You can obtain a fast online college degree that is genuine and recognized by several potential employers. Make sure that your time and money is worth what you are getting. With careful planning, you will find an online education program that’s best for you.
