Article by College Online

Given the wide selection of universities and degree programs available nowadays, people are more prudent when it comes to choosing only the best of the best. The same is true with college education. There are plenty of online schools popping up in the Internet. Some are reputable but many are not. Reputation says a lot about the quality of education that students get. Thus, it’s important to sign up for one which is recognized for the excellent education it provides.

One of the key signs to knowing if an online college is legitimate is if it has a reputable – or at least stable – real world equivalent. For example, the University of Phoenix is a respected school in the real world, offering a solid education and college experience. It also has a presence online and is one of the many schools that have received accreditation from organizations authorized by the US Board of Education. For many of the Associates’, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees it offers, the quality of education both in the real world and in the online courses is similar, so students are getting the most out of their tuition fees.

Another criterion would be the range of courses it has on offer. Someone pursuing an online education probably has at least some idea of what specific field of study they are interested in pursuing. Obviously, a good choice of online college would be one that offers a degree that is as close as possible – if not hitting it exactly – to what the student wants. For colleges online that have offline counterparts, such as Arizona State University, this is usually less of a problem. The educational offerings are usually the same for both forms. However, for universities that are strictly online, it could require a bit of digging.

It’s to be expected that different online schools will have different degrees available. Therefore, you should take into consideration first your plan, whether or not to pursue graduate studies. While some might offer Bachelors’ degrees, others might opt not to cater to Master’s and Doctorate students. Liberty University and Everest University Online both offer a full range of Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, for example. You might also want to take a look into the policies of the university. Depending on their rules, it might be allowed to have several units from a previous degree and have them applied to a following one. This means that students won’t have the need to repeat the same course material taken up in an Associate’s degree when taking a Bachelor’s in the same area.

Contact information is important when it comes to distance learning because students don’t have the privilege of a physical location that makes it easier to track down their professors. With that said, the beauty of distance learning is it offers its students plenty of ways to acquire course materials and communicate with their instructors. There are loads of online universities which set things up so that it’s easier to contact lecturers. But the numbers of those who don’t are even higher.

			    About the Author

There are so many colleges online that choosing the best one for you can be a bit difficult. There are a lot of things to consider before enrolling in any online institution.

Melatonin has recently become a hit with bodybuilders for elevating testosterone levels, without the use of testosterone! Melatonin is one supplement which has researchers, sports nutritionists, and bodybuilders scratching their heads. It’s available over the counter, which means any level of it can be obtained, and it can be used in multiple informal studies, whereas more tightly controlled drugs are only obtainable by licensed doctors or researchers. Let’s take a look at the good, the bad, and potentially unknown side effects of Melatonin.

The good
First off, it is easily attainable and relatively inexpensive. Depending upon purchasing limits, you can stock up and you can then use it for whatever purposes you wish. If you’re a bodybuilding nutritionist, this bodes very well for you, as you can to use it upon your stable of athletes and evaluate the effects of different doses. If you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or even 50s, Melatonin might deliver a boost to your body’s T-levels that can really improve your quality of life. Melatonin raises testosterone levels in subjects. That’s right. Elevated testosterone levels in nearly all subjects tested – and many of the subjects retained these elevated levels for up to six months after discontinued use. Long-term use results aren’t known. Researchers aren’t aware of dependencies or any long-term requirements or limitations of use, but they are running studies now.

Melatonin can also be used in a “poor man’s stack”, where it is stacked with legal prohormones, to lead to increased muscle gains in an anabolic environment. In addition, adding in the use of ECA (ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin stacked) creates a fairly powerful pre-contest supplement plan, which is actually legal! You can purchase all components at your corner pharmacy or drug store. Additionally, it likely qualifies as legal for natural bodybuilding competitions.

The bad
If you are a male planning on fathering children in the near future, avoid Melatonin. In studies, it has been shown to lower sperm counts in some males. The cause is not yet known, but it may be attributed to endocrine shutdown due to artificially high testosterone levels. If you’re not confident, you should wait a few months or a ears to view further studies on the compound.

The unknown
Melatonin is a new supplement, and relatively unknown. Already, a “Melatonin II” is arriving, and the long-term effects of “I” haven’t yet begun to be evaluated. If you’re a risk-taker, Then Melatonin might be for you. If you prefer to play it safe, instead consult with a doctor about possible use of actual testosterone. While it’s believed Melatonin doesn’t affect the endocrine system (and the manufacture of testosterone by the testes) nothing is known for sure.

The bottom line
If you’re an older guy in your 30s or 40s, and you’ve already passed your child-fathering years, and you feel a slump in quality of life due to sagging testosterone levels, then Melatonin might be right for you. Check with your doctor, and evaluate all the possible side effects, and limits upon quality of life.

Recent studies conducted at Cornell University suggest negative environmental effects can and do have a marked influence on your child’s cognitive and developmental growth.

On the flip-side, however, exposure to pleasant, natural settings, like the Garden Route of the Cape or the pristine South African bush have quite the opposite, and a rather therapeutic, effect on the overall well being of any child.

A leading environmental and developmental psychologist, Dr Gary Evans, has earmarked a handful of elements that have a significant effect on children’s overall development and they include noise levels, overcrowding and housing and neighbourhood quality – most of which do not pertain to either golf course living or the coveted seaside lifestyle of our coastal regions.

Noise

Ongoing exposure to unacceptably high levels of noise, be they traffic noises or simply music, has been proven to affect a child’s reading ability, concentration levels and even physiological indicators. Apart from long term memory problems, a child may also show signs of high blood pressure and even a rise in stress hormones.

Overcrowding

Overcrowding, whether in your dwelling place or the neighbourhood, is a no-no if you wish your child to reach his or her full potential. Interpersonal relationships will obviously be put under added pressure and the insecure child may well withdraw totally as a means of coping with the spatial constraints.

Quality of the neighbourhood

But it is the housing and quality of the neighbourhood that probably has the most profound effect on the growth of your child. Families who live in high rise buildings as opposed to a family resort or a single family home on a golf resort, for instance, will have fewer relationships with neighbours and consequently far less social support.

Even the quality of municipal services, recreational opportunities and the access to transport will affect your child either favourably or adversely. Can you imagine the heights any child will attain if they are brought up in a safe, secure environment like a golf property near George or Cape Town where there are literally dozens of exciting outdoor activities on tap?

Increase in the incidence of childhood diseases

What is more frightening, however, is that children are far more vulnerable to exposure to pesticides, heavy metals and other forms of chemical pollution as indicated by the increased incidence of diseases directly linked to environmental effects. These include asthma, autism, attention deficit activity disorder and even childhood cancer.

In fact, it has been suggested that over 80% of all developmental disorders in childhood are a direct result of exposure to negative environmental elements. Need any more persuading to pack the bags and family and move lock, stock and barrel to the safe and nurturing environment of the golf estates, small holdings or balmy beach towns?

Britain has for long attracted Indian students to its shore for graduate and post graduate courses. The country has a history dating back centuries and an education system that is and eclectic mix of the oldest and the newest universities of the world. These universities offer the best learning to students in all streams and maintain a very high standard of education ratified by strict authorities. UK colleges are preferred by students over other countries because the cost of studying in UK is lower than US and many other countries. The reason being that UK offers many post graduate courses in one-year term whereas the same courses are covered over a period of two years in other countries thus making it more expensive to study there.

There are more than 50,000 postgraduate courses and research opportunities in UK that one can choose from. The best part about study in UK is that it has the best of tradition and modern elements to offer to students. Also, the courses on offer provide exhaustive exposure to students and provide maximum opportunities for learning. Most degree courses have strong professional foundation and offer training, if required, at the best professional and business organisations. British institutes offer an intellectually and culturally stimulating environment to students wherein close contact between staff and students is facilitated and encouraged to ensure that students get maximum support required.

Indian students, for years, have chosen the United Kingdom as their education destination for decades. There is a large density of Asian and particularly Indian students, in Britain. The high quality of education offered by British institutes is a major puller for Indian students. The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in the UK checks on the institutes to ensure that the required quality of education is maintained throughout. Then, there is another system named the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), which examines the quality of a university’s teaching. It also analyses and assesses the general facilities offered by the universities to its students. Owing to such strict systems, the quality of education is ensured.

United Kingdom is so popular among international students because it has a multicultural society to boast of. Students of different countries, of different ethnicities, of different religions and faiths can be found in most universities of Britain. Thus, UK has a very open culture and it welcomes students of different backgrounds into its fold. This is a great thing for international students as they get a chance to learn about and mix up with peers from such diverse backgrounds. Also, if you are a religious person, more often than not, you would be able to find a place of worship in vicinity.

Owing to such a huge population of students of different nationalities and backgrounds, Britain now boasts of hundreds of years of experience of providing high-standard, internationally acclaimed, quality education to students. In most universities, there are support networks and proper guidance centers for foreign students. There are also online forums that one can join as a foreign student in Britain. UK universities are very well equipped to take care of and guide international students who come to study here.

While studying in the UK, students can opt for part-time work too. Generally, an international student in Britain is allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during course term. Students must check with their university authorities or international advisor or foreign office before taking up work in the UK as laws are stringent and keep changing. So, instead of inadvertently violating any law, students must seek advice of the counselors. However, it is not always easy to find a job so one should not rely on that to fund one’s education. At least expenses for the first year of studying and staying in the UK should be arranged for in advance.

Before you decide to apply for a course in a British university or study abroad, you must plan your finances carefully. Calculate the cost of applying, tuition fee, traveling and then staying in the UK. You could also apply for scholarships if a university offers those. Generally, tests are held to establish the eligibility of a student for the scholarship and they go to very bright students. You could also apply for education loans to fund your education in the UK.

This paper deals with the question: Why is the shift toward online education happening? This is a complex issue that involves questions of educational access, paradigms for teaching and learning, competition and globalization among universities, the development of new and better online technologies, and the financial pressures facing higher education. A huge transition is underway. The same networking and computing technology that has revolutionized global commerce, and many other facets of modern life, is now being targeted at education. Partnering the Internet with modern course management systems makes it possible for universities to offer online coursework on a global basis. The critical task that lies ahead is to create and disseminate curricula of high quality that students can embrace and educators can sustain. For more details visit to www.guardadsense.com .The overall objective of José’s Online Education Forum is to examine the realities of college and university online teaching, and the processes of education using today’s information technologies. Collectively, the authors of this paper have taught over a hundred different university-level courses online, both graduate and undergraduate, mostly using the Internet. The issues and insights discussed in this Forum will provide educators with important tools and the understanding needed to effectively embrace the world of online education.

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 The Sloan Consortium

In a Sloan-C survey of 1170 Provosts and Academic VPs, more than half indicated a belief that online education would be ‘critical for the long-term’ in higher education. Surprisingly perhaps, the same percentage said that they believe success in achieving learning outcomes is already equivalent between online and traditional teaching methods. And there was also a consensus of opinion among these respondents that the quality of online courses would continue to improve, with a third of them believing that online teaching quality will soon surpass the quality typical of conventional teaching. These opinions may be surprising for many of us in the teaching profession, coming as they do from such high level and influential administrators. They signal a fundamental change in perceptions about the potential of online education in the immediate future.

1.2 Overview

The objective in this paper is to investigate and assess why this shift to online education is happening. Several factors can be cited beginning with improvements in access to educational services using online technologies and changing paradigms for teaching and learning that integrate well with these technologies. Other factors include heightened educational competition and globalization, the ongoing and often dramatic improvements in online systems capabilities, and the underlying economics of providing online education versus conventional means. The following sections of this paper explore each of these factors individually.

2. ACCESS TO EDUCATION

2.1 Access for the Masses

The ability to use information technologies effectively is one aspect of achieving success in today’s society, both for individuals and for organizations as a whole. The current job market requires educated workers who are capable of changing and adapting as business and cultural realities shift and evolve in today’s fast-paced, global economy (Kantar, 2001). Information technology is enabling the development of this kind of economic world structure. For more information logon to www.instant-adsense-dollars.com .It is also making possible the education of the workforce that this new economy requires by providing new capabilities for teaching and learning online.

Online education offers the promise of increased access to high quality education for the masses. Exactly how this is going to occur is not clear yet, but there is no doubt that online education is rapidly becoming an established modality. The development of the modern world economy demands an educated workforce. Places like the three It’s (India, Indonesia, and Ireland) and more recently China, are finding that the need for an educated workforce is overwhelming the capabilities of their traditional educational systems .In America and Western Europe, the same economic and political pressures associated with ‘equality of opportunity’ contribute to demands for equal access to a quality education for all who seek it.
